IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD, WE MUST ADDRESS THE PAST AND DRAW THE LINES THAT CONNECT THE HISTORY OF SLAVERY AND OPPRESSION TO OUR PRESENT DAY.

The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia has created Signs of Change Charlottesville–in partnership with For Freedoms, Charlottesville’s Office of Human Rights, The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, and The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative—a series of community workshops, public art and exhibitions that will tell the untold stories of African Americans in the Charlottesville Community.

Signs of Change is supported by an Arts Enhancement Grant from the UVA Office of the Provost & Vice Provost for the Arts.

OUR WORKSHOPS

In our workshops, the amazing Charlene Green from the Office of Human rights leads a thought-provoking introduction to the untold histories of Charlottesville’s Black community. Then, local artists lead an art-making exercise to illustrate these stories. The completed works will be displayed in various exhibitions around the city.

This event is free and open to the public.
